Senior Principal Mechanical Design Engineer
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer, to lead the mechanical design and become the Design Authority in the Engineering department
The summary of duties follows:
  • Mechanical Technical Lead on current development projects & implementation from roadmap
  • Design authority for present and future projects
  • Point-of-contact for outsourcing activities in the mechanical design
  • Production of mechanical designs, documentation, drawings and 3D models
  • Liaise with PLM, Electronics Design Team, System Testing, Supply Chain and Production
  • Hands-on development
  • Work with previous Mechanical Chief Engineer (and his team) for handover and induction
  • Support the creation and maintenance of the mechanical database
  • Maintain the CAD software licenses
Skills & Experience
  • Previous mechanical development and technical project leadership experience
  • Degree (BSc) in Mechanical Engineering
  • Understanding of Geometrical Tolerances
  • Good understanding of the Design Process
  • Competent to check and sign off drawings, documents and BOMs
  • To author Technical Documentation to meet Customer requirements
  • Understanding manufacturing processes and techniques
  • Understanding of the regulatory environment to achieve compliance with our engineering regulatory requirements
  • Understanding of test methods for Shock, Vibration, Ingress, Environmental (Hot, Cold & Humidity), EMC
  • SC required
  • Knowledge of marine navigation equipment, and marine radar (optional)
  • Knowledge of Creo 3.0 and PDM Link 11.0 (optional)
  • Experience with mechanical simulation (FEA)
  • Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor (optional)
  • Excellent communicator and able to influence thinking/get point across
  • Able to present and summarise complex information to a wide audience
  • Problem solving and research skills
  • Self-sufficient and self-motivated approach
  • Can work across technical functions and disciplines
  • Ability to assess priorities and manage stakeholder expectations
  • Ability to manage high volumes of work
  • Friendly approachable style and able to command respect from colleagues at all levels
