Our client is a world leader in the design and manufacture of satellite systems. Their activities cover complete civil and military telecommunications and Earth observation systems, science and navigation programmes, together with avionics and a wide range of space equipment and associated ground infrastructure.They are recruiting for an RF Equipment Engineer initially on a 12 month Contract. The role will be based in Portsmouth, Hampshire. Job descriptionA vacancy for an RF Equipment Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Portsmouth.The successful applicant will join the Payload Equipment Expertise and Customisation group as an Equipment Specialist, integrated within Space Engineering and supporting the Telecom Business Line.This is an exciting and challenging role focused on Low Power and High Power Active RF Communication Equipment's such as LNA/Converters/Receivers/Oscillators/SSPA/MPM/TWT/EPC. The role has two main aspects:1) You will be responsible for overseeing Payload Equipment activities across active projects, starting with equipment specification, engineering support to procurement activities, engineering support to reviews within Airbus and also with external suppliers and customers, problem resolution and validation in support to Assembly Integration and Test and concluding with support to in-orbit delivery and long term support to in-orbit operations2) The role also encompasses forward looking aspects such as support to the Telecom proposal team, support to R&D, new products introduction and continuous improvement of the tools and processes.You will have a 'hands on' end-to-end technical responsibility in cutting edge technology within the space environment. You will be required to work closely with multiple engineering teams: internally with the payload design team, technical authorities and experts in various engineering disciplines (such as EMC, Radiation, Electrical Systems, Mechanical Systems), the supply chain engineers; but also externally with frequent interactions with suppliers and Airbus customers.The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance and the role requires occasional travel overseas.Roles and ResponsibilitiesYour main tasks and responsibilities will include:- Design trade-offs and support to make or buy decision- Generation of standard and project-specific specifications- Provide technical support and recommendations into the bid proposal, consultation and supplier selection process- Act as technical focal point with equipment suppliers with a view to creating development plans, resolving technical problems and ensuring design to cost and schedule.- Prepare and deliver technical presentations in front of the end customer as required- Lead equipment reviews with suppliers and customers (such as EQSR, PDR, CDR)- Attend and present at project design reviews, as necessary.- Attend supplier evaluation reviews and make recommendations in terms of design, performance, risk, product policy and design to cost requirements.- Ensuring validation of equipment's at satellite level once assembled.- Maintaining a database of all relevant product information.- Ensure closure on all technical problems and non-conformance- Contribute to the lessons learned process and make sure second closures are implemented across all on-going and future projects.- Devise and implement metrics associated with improvements.Skills and experienceWe are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:- A Degree in Electrical, Electronic engineering, mathematics or physics with ideally RF / microwave or radio communications content in academic background- Demonstrated competence and knowledge of relevant RF Equipment's gained in a design, development or production environment- Experience of working directly with customers /suppliers and with strong ability to present ideas and concepts to the customer/supplier with authority- A methodical approach to work, with commitment and drive to bring tasks to completion, even where adverse conditions are encountered- Ability to interact with various technical and non-technical disciplines and work on multiple parallel activities- Strong analytical skills and ability to generate innovative solutions- Previous experience in space comms systems design and analysis and/or payload integration, validation and test and/or digital and analogue communications would be a plusIf you have the skills and experience to be considered for this role, please apply on-line.
