· Serve as the Product Manager for all Software / Firmware within the High Performance Embedded Computing (HPC) product portfolio· Drive strategy definition for the whole range of Software / Firmware that accompanies HPC Hardware items· Provide responsive support to information requests from commercial team and directly from customers· Maintain / forge partnerships with Operating System / Firmware / Middleware vendors, to: o understand their technology roadmapso steer our product to compatibility with their offerings, or incorporate their offerings within our product, as necessaryo create the conditions for maximum mutual benefit, plus minimum cost of co-operation· In conjunction with the Hardware PMs, maintain knowledge of the Software relevant main aspects of, and vendor default Software support for, the primary silicon devices used on boards· Work closely with Hardware PMs and Engineering, plus establish relationships with potential major lead customers, to ensure a smooth introduction of Software Enabled HPC products into the market, regarding all the Software / Firmware aspects· Utilize customer feedback, Sales and FAE feedback, plus Business Development input regarding major standards compatibility or other high-level program needs, to creatively maximize Software and Firmware added-value going forward, and so...· Define and maintain a competitive product roadmap for Software and Firmware offerings· Facilitating the above roadmap also means: o Monitoring the competitive landscape wrt Software enabling, and evolving offerings to maintain an optimum competitive positiono Researching and defining new Software technology directions, aligned both to main silicon and to anticipated future customer needs· Create (or support where s/w content is subsidiary to a h/w product business plan) the business case for New Product Initiatives (NPIs) and New Technology Initiatives (NTIs), as required to fulfil the Software / Firmware roadmap, presenting to leadership and obtaining appropriate approvals· Support Sales and marketing promotion for the Software and Firmware aspects of HPC products· Ensure execution of the above product roadmap, by planning and monitoring the NPIs and NTIs with the appropriate Engineering leaders· Be accountable for decisions on all the HPC related Software and Firmware investments· Be accountable for all the financial metrics on HPC related Software and Firmware investments, including a) costs from partners / suppliers / input licensing / engineering, b) price points, and c) resultant revenues, ensuring a) stays inside the bounds agreed with leadership and c) is maximized within the context that much Software is itself an enabler to maximize h/w sales· Regarding optimization of c) above, maintain sound knowledge of market engagement models for Embedded Software and Operating Systems, evolving engagement model appropriately, with ease of use by the customer base as a critical goal· Maintain a strong interface with Legal regarding Software and Firmware licenses, plus the associated Maintenance Agreement, with particular responsibility for input on engagement model and technical necessities: o Co-ordinating on updates to standard licenses when such are necessaryo Assisting legal with understanding / crafting the Software / Firmware aspects of custom-per-account licensing, and partner / supplier licenseso Responding to general Legal queries related to software characteristics / licensing, especially wrt Open Source / GPLo Act as execution authority for standard sign-and-return output licenses, and lesser (e.g. partner demo) input licenses; work with Legal for major input licenses· Maintain interfaces with Program Management on customer funded programs that require deep Software / Firmware engagement, in both proposal and execution phases, assisting with responses and steering Engineering appropriately
· BSc Engineering or equivalent and strong product management background· Experience managing software products, or products that comprise both hardware and Embedded Software elements in which the latter is critical added value· Proven track record of managing new products in the embedded industry; strong preference given to those with mil-aero and / or aviation industry experience· Experience of customer relations experience· Deep knowledge of the Embedded Software market and associated technical knowledge, inclusive of Linux distributions and real-time Operating Systems, Virtualization / Hypervisors and partitioned Operating Systems for Security or Safety, Boot Firmwares including UEFI and Open offerings, Network Stacks and low-level communication protocols, Graphics / GPU packages including OpenGL and OpenCL, Board Support Packages and Built-In-Test (BIT) principles, Trusted Boot and secure operation· Knowledge of Software Licensing and engagement principles, inclusive of Intellectual Property, Copyright and Open Source principles including GPL and copyleft, service models, and the ability to express software product characteristics clearly for enablement of straightforward license framing (knowledge does not have to be at legal level, but software para-legal is desirable)· Basic knowledge of hardware technologies including Single Board Computers, Digital Signal Processing and Switched Fabrics· Some familiarity with typical embedded military applications such as radar, sonar, C4ISR, mission computing, targeting/tracking, electronic warfare, communications and EO/IR technologies· Experience in working with customers at all levels within an organization and with interfacing with leadership within the company· Strong communicator (written and oral skills) with excellent presentation skills
