Senior Systems Admin

Our client, a leading developer of embedded computing products, is looking for a Senior Systems Admin to manage the company's IT Infrastructure systems, maintain their availability, performance & security and manage new implementations of company's IT Infrastructure.

You will be providing a mixture of preventative support as well as integration activity around Windows Server and Linux environment, Active Directory, Office365, Azure, VMWare, Cisco Meraki, WAN/LAN and more.

You will monitor and maintain the computer systems and networks of the organisation. Install and configure computer systems, provide business project support, diagnose hardware and software faults, and solve technical and applications problems, either over the phone or in person.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, monitor, and provide capacity planning of all network, security, and computer systems to meet the organisation's current and future requirements.
  • Installing and configuring computer hardware operating systems and applications.
  • Responsible for management, maintenance and architecture of storage, virtualised environment, servers, and productivity tools.
  • Monitor systems and identify performance issues proactively.
  • Plan, perform and provide project management of hardware and software upgrades and deployments.
  • Test and document all changes to Infrastructure, hardware, software, and hosted applications.
  • Troubleshoot system problems, resolve issues, and prepare status reviews and reports.
  • Talking staff or clients through a series of actions, either face to face or over the telephone to help set up systems or resolve issues.

Essential Competencies and Experience:

  • Microsoft Certification preferred or similar qualification/experience is essential.
  • Ability to work well individually and in a team environment.
  • Solid technical background in a hosted and cloud services environment including infrastructure, hardware, software, and telecommunications.
  • Experience of Microsoft infrastructure technologies including Windows Server, Azure, DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, Trusts and scripting.
  • Experience in supporting Linux operating systems within a business environment.
  • Experience in deploying and managing Office365.
  • Familiarity with enterprise-class backup systems.
  • Good knowledge of IT security practise including: Firewall rule base, AD Group Policy, AV, Windows Update, Office365 (InTune), System and Security Event logging, MFA, Windows and Linux system hardening, Role Based Access Control, Identity Management, ACL, protected data types such as ITAR and MOD.
  • Good knowledge of TCP/IP fundamentals, IPv4/IPv6, MPLS, routing protocol operation.
  • Good knowledge of Network design, routing and VLANs.

Advantageous Experience:

  • Strong virtualization experience using VMware, including HA, DRS, vSwitches.
  • Experience using automated monitoring tools. Knowledge of Solarwinds would be beneficial.
  • Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, etc.), scripting, and processes.
  • Good knowledge of Network design, routing and VLANs.
  • Network performance, QoS and fault tolerance diagnosis/troubleshooting for all network devices (routers, switches, WAN, LAN and Wireless circuits, firewalls, and protocols) in an enterprise environment. Knowledge of Cisco Meraki.
  • Experience in Hyper Converged environment Administration. Knowledge of Dell VxRail would be beneficial.
