I am looking for a Building Control Officer/ Surveyor for a 4-6 week part time contract based in Bedford.

This role is inside IR35

JOB PURPOSE:

To assist the Service Manager in the effective management of the Building Control function and contribute towards the objectives of the division on all aspects of the Building Control function.

To assist the Service Manager with enforcement action to ensure delivery of the Council's obligations under the Building Act & associated legislation.

Main Responsibilities -

  • To assist the Service Manager to ensure the effectiveness, competiveness & efficient running of the Building Control section, along sound business lines to ensure competency and service delivery.
  • To allocate & check Building Regulations applications, works on site, fire safety strategies & access statements within required timescales to ensure compliance with the Regulations & Acts, undertake, & complete enforcement action where necessary within the required timescales.
  • To allocate & check demolition notices, dangerous structures, initial notices, unauthorised works to ensure compliance with the appropriate legislation & Council obligations under the Building Act 1984, Building Regulations 2010, Approved Inspector Regulations 2010, & The Building (Local Authority Charges) Regulations 2010.
  • To maintain accurate written records
  • To assist in the management, training, motivation, development & control of Trainees, Assistants, Building Control Officers & Senior Building Control Officers & act in their absence on all relevant matters.
  • To undertake & assist with fee checking, project cost calculations & the raising of invoices for applications to maximise the fee earning potential of the division & remain competitive within the Building Control market.

Requirements:

  • Must be a full member of the RICS or CABE, or equivalent & have considerable recent experience working as an operational Building Control Officer within a Building Control Unit.
  • Must demonstrate an extensive knowledge of building control regulations & understanding of building operations.
  • Must hold a full current valid driving licence a& have use of a suitably insured vehicle for business purposes, or be able to otherwise demonstrate the ability to travel efficiently to sites around the Borough.
  • Must have a good understanding of IT systems & their applications within the Building Control environment.
  • Must possess excellent administrative skills & be able to maintain accurate & comprehensive records.
