Mechanical Engineer

This Opportunity would ideally suit a Thermal/Mechanical Design Engineer with expertise and background in designing & developing Thermally Challenging products - Ideally for the Ruggedised Electronics Sector.

You will be responsible for designing high end thermal solutions for rugged single board computers, other electronic devices, and systems to be used in conduction and convection cooled environments. Opportunity for future personal development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design of leading-edge Mechanical components and Thermal Solutions for Rugged Electronic assemblies and Systems
  • Support New Product Introduction Projects, New Technology Introduction to aid Thermal and Mechanical performance.
  • Perform Thermal & Structural analysis on designs
  • Supporting Design and Project milestone Reviews to provide input and implement feedback into design.
  • Working closely with Electronic hardware & manufacturing teams to ensure design is optimised
  • Perform all aspects of mechanical development life cycle - from requirements capture through to production release.
  • Creating and Actioning Engineering Change Requests, Progress Changes and Update to Drawings and associated Bills of Materials.
  • Work to required ISO9001/ AS9100 Rev D quality standards, adhering to agreed processes and procedures
  • Produce engineering drawings for component and assembly levels and work with external suppliers.
  • Research, test and qualify thermal materials
  • Develop new Thermal/ Mechanical testing qualification methods
  • Review and approve work completed by others, and mentor junior members of the team
  • Keep abreast of Latest Thermal/ Mechanical developments in the Industry
  • Experience of DFM with a Good Understanding and appreciation of Machining, Lean Manufacturing and Assembly processes. Along with the ability to feed back into the design for 'Right First Time' and to produce an efficient manufacturing package.
  • Carrying out investigations and testing for RCCA
  • Assist Design/Production/QA where required to resolve issues


  • Have Good knowledge of Solidworks 3d CAD software or similar packages.
  • Ability to complete Thermal Simulation and Structural FEA with the ability to assimilate the detail and implement into improve the design.
  • Knowledge of Heatsinks, Heat Transfer Methods, experience in Liquid Flow Through Technology advantageous
  • Minimum of 2:1 Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent and Several Years' industrial experience in Mechanical Design, Thermal & Stress analysis
  • Have a broad knowledge of various methods of manufacture such as machining, casting, extruding etc.
  • Appreciation and Good Understanding of Lean Methodologies
  • Have strong problem-solving abilities
  • Have excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Be a good team player and support the mechanical and project teams where appropriate
  • Flexible and approachable.
