Our client is world renowned manufacturer of next generation fibre and optic products which are utilised within semiconductor applications and medical diagnostic devices, they utilise highly sophisticated laser production techniques in order to meet growing demand from their global customer base.

They are currently in a phase of rapid growth and expansion from both a people perspective and capital expenditure in their Hamble based facility.

Main Responsibilities

Electronics Product Design

• Write specifications
• Assess technical viability
• Propose conceptual designs
• Design product hardware in detail to meet specifications including schematic design, component selection, and PCB layout (Done within Altium Designer)
• Design embedded software (PIC based solutions in C)
• Document designs and processes according to company procedures so that they can be maintained, built, tested and inspected
• Investigate and resolve problems and product failures
• Identify and meet all compliance requirements (EMC, safety: EN601010, other customer specified)

Process Automation Improvements

• Design automated solutions for production processes
• Design data collection and management systems. (Work with software team as required)

Technical Support

• Provide technical solutions, training and technical support to other departments as required
• Support for Production and Production Engineering teams

Other

• Observe and promote safe working practices at all times
• Ensure compliance with the company QMS
• Protect company IP in line with agreed strategy
• Perform other tasks as directed by the Project Manager

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• A qualification equivalent to Level 6 of the National Qualifications Framework in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent vocational training in a relevant industrial environment
• Electronics product design
• Analog design (DC to 50MHz)
• Digital design
• Embedded microprocessor design (PIC's)
• Embedded software design (C)
• PCB layout design (Altium preferred but can be sent on training)
• Good verbal and written communication skills appropriate to a highly technical environment

Desirable

• Low noise analog techniques
• Process automation design
• Knowledge of Python programming
• Design for EMC compliance
• EMC qualification assessment
• Software design process experience (Azure DevOps)
