The purpose of this job is to lead the Client Groups entry into competitive transmission markets such as Interconnectors (standard and multi-purpose), OFTOs and CATOs. The knowledge and credibility of the Competitive Transmission Sector Director will be instrumental in the development of the Client Team and the industry partnerships required to target UK centred and subsequently international opportunities.
This is a key role for our client as it will be responsible for opening up a huge developing market opportunity that has clear synergies to our wider business. It will report directly to the Director of Strategic Growth within the client group.
The key responsibilities of this role will be to:
- Work with the Director of Strategic Growth to build and maintain a market leading team capable of creating a space for our client in this international market
- Work with the director of strategic growth to develop the clients strategy for competitive transmission
- Establish a partner network for the development and co-investment of competitive transmission assets
- Evaluate and develop bids for OFTOS and CATOS (as they emerge) working alongside partners
- Negotiate our clients engagement with existing Interconnector and MPI opportunities and develop new opportunities working internally and externally
- Evaluate and develop opportunities to invest in and build out elements of the Offshore Transmission Network utilising existing assets such as wind farms and asset opportunities such as OFTOs and Multi-Purpose Interconnectors
Having proven itself in the development of the portfolio of solutions within its current scope, our client the mandate to address the growing market for competitive transmission assets both within the UK and further afield. The Competitive Transmission Sector Director will be responsible for leading the group's push into this market.
The individual will require:
- A firm understanding of energy sector, the key markets within it and how these are likely to change over time
- A good understanding of key power infrastructure and associated technologies such as power generation, transmission, distribution, and storage
- A strong track record in power transmission with experience of one or more of HVDC connections, interconnectors and OFTOs
- Strong industry relationships across BEIS, Ofgem, potential partners and suppliers
- Experience in large scale power infrastructure projects
- Experience of building, shaping, and managing a business
- To be a self-starter, innovative and proactive in business growth
Key Accountabilities:
- Take responsibility for shaping and developing Enterprise's Competitive Transmission propositions
- Take responsibility for shaping and driving projects and programmes required to expedite the delivery of our clients Competitive Transmission propositions
- Take responsibility for engaging with wider Enterprise services such as commercial, legal and HR in the shaping and development of new business propositions
- Work closely with the operations and delivery teams to ensure projects can be effectively procured, delivered, and operated
- To own the relationship with third parties necessary for the delivery of the new business propositions
- Ensure clear briefing to and buy-in from senior managers within the group and ongoing "sponsorship" at an appropriate level for projects under the individual's control
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Business Knowledge
- A firm understanding of energy sector, the key markets within it and how these are likely to change over time
- A good understanding of key power infrastructure and associated technologies such as power generation, transmission, distribution, and storage
- A strong understanding of power transmission with in-depth experience of one or more of HVDC connections, interconnectors and OFTOs
- A detailed understanding of the regulatory and commercial models associated with offshore transmission opportunities such as OFTOs and Interconnectors
- A detailed understanding of the processes through which OFTOs and Interconnectors are tendered and procured
- Experience in large scale power infrastructure projects
- Experience of building, shaping, and managing a business
Essential Functional & Technical Skills
- At least five year's experience in the field of power transmission with specific experience of HVDC transmission systems
- A good understanding of the key technologies that underpin power transmission systems
- Experience of successfully developing and/or bidding power transmission opportunities
- Strong business management capabilities with a track record in growing and developing a team
- Ability to develop and communicate strategies, budget and business cases working in collaboration with multiple individuals, teams, and, potentially, organisations
- Strong relationship development capabilities including the ability to interact at C level
- Strong financial analysis capabilities with the ability to build and model financial forecasts and business cases and assess financial accounts
- Strong commercial background - ability to calculate commercial opportunity (and risk) associated
- Sound judgement - with the ability to interpret, analyse and disseminate complex, sensitive information
- Experience communicating complicated projects internally to gain approval through governance processes
- Understanding of a range of commercial structures as they apply to power transmission
- Demonstratable ability to influence those in senior position
