Control Systems Software Engineer - PLCNB!!! Please only apply if you are a sole British National as you will need to be able to obtain security clearance due to the nature of the projects Role The team provides software design and development expertise for maritime control and instrumentation systems throughout the product lifecycle.As a key member of the control systems software engineering team, this role will be to deliver software artefacts whilst working to a full software development lifecycle through process and procedural activities.Key Responsibilities The main tasks and responsibilities for this role are as follows: * Capture, interpret and develop customer requirements * Produce technical documentation in accordance with company/customer procedures * Specify, design and test solutions for PLC control systems * Manage data communications with third party equipment * Develop PLC software from multiple design formats such as Block Diagrams, Flow Charts or Pseudo Code * Validate software designs through analysis and test * Support the preparation of contract changes and proposals * Be aware of and comply with company standards of conduct and all relevant statutory requirements * Provide input to project meetings and team briefings * Undertake any other reasonable task as requestedEssential qualifications / competency requirements To fulfil the requirements of this job, the post-holder must have the following skills: * Design and integration of large scale PLC Control Systems * Large scale PLC Control Systems, utilising either: o Siemens S7-300/400 (Step 7 Professional Classic) and or S7-1200/1500 (TIA Portal) PLC Control Systems. o Rockwell CompactLogix/ControlLogix (RSLogix5000 and Studio5000 Logix Developer) PLC Control Systems. * Experience of Fault Tolerant, High Availability and Safety Integrated PLC Solutions * Experience of Industrial Communication protocols and networking standards such as; Profibus, Profinet, EtherNet/IP, ModBus, TCP/IP, UDP and ASCII * Production of technical documentation * SCADA/PLC interfacing and driver configuration * Software development lifecycles, processes and procedures * 3+ years in a PLC engineering environment * Proven experience in PLC control systems design and programming * Understanding of testing and commissioning * Degree, HND, HNC or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic engineering or a related discipline e.g. C&I engineering, Systems engineeringEssential personal attributes * Adept at problem-solving, able to develop solutions to a variety of problems * Good analytical ability * Organised, adept at workload management and prioritising appropriately to meet deadlines * Flexible and responsive to changing priorities * Proactive team worker, equally self-motivated and able to work autonomously * Good interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with all audiences/stakeholders * Proficient user of MS office * Fluent in written and spoken English * Strong customer focus * Engaging 'can do' attitudeDesirable qualifications / competencies * Experience of Large Infrastructure PLC and SCADA development environments and solutions * Safety Integrated Systems such as Schneider (Triconex) Tricon and Tristation * Systems Engineering approach to software development * Understanding of industry standards such as BS EN 61508, 61511 and 61131 * Understanding of HAZOP and FMECA activities * Experience of configuration management systems and change control * Software testing and verification * Experience within Defence, Maritime (Ship's machinery and control systems), Aerospace, or a similarly regulated industrial sector (e.g. Oil & Gas, Pharma or PetroChem)
