
We are currently looking for an experienced Project Development Manager to undertake project development activities for the expansion of existing, and the development of new, projects in the renewable energy sector. This will primarily include Anaerobic Digestion plants (biomethane and CHP), but may also include waste to energy and other commercial renewable energy projects. The role would ideally suit a developer or project development professional with a Construction, Utilities or Process Industry background, who has an aptitude to learn and who is passionate about being part of delivering "net-zero" for the future.The role will be supported by a range of outsourced and internal resources, which include design, legal, finance, project delivery management and specialist contractors.This is a hybrid position with a mixture of working from home, visiting the office in Stretham once per week, and travelling nationally for site visits up to a couple of times per week.Responsibilities: Responsible for project development, from land/project acquisition phase, through to handover to project delivery and construction
- Creator and custodian of Project Brief and Business Case for both new and site expansion projects
- Work closely with the Business Development function and progress opportunities into development
- Adhere to the internal project development and delivery governance processes
- Liaise with third party developers on incoming proposals
- Development activities will include:
- Negotiating leases and securing land for development
- Preparing budget estimates of capital costs
- Appointment of designer and Principal Designer
- Oversight of concept design (up to Planning Approval)
- Ensuring the company's design standards are included in the Project Brief
- Populating the lifecycle financial model
- Oversight of Local Authority Planning and EA permit applications and approvals
- DNO connection agreements and product offtake capacities
- Validating feedstock supplies and waste product offtake capacity
- Defining the project milestone programme in consultation with all key stakeholders on the project
- Creation of the project risk and opportunity register and populating with relevant risks and mitigation actions with the team
- Ensure planning conditions are incorporated into the Project Brief
- Implement effective change control for variations to scope and design, during the development phases and ensure the business case remains viable
- Ensure the execution of the Project Brief meets the requirements of safety, cost, time and quality objectives
- Ensure lessons learned from other projects are fed back into the Project Brief
- Prepare and submit funding requests and drawdown requests at the relevant gateway milestones in the project
- Complete a robust handover, with all required information and documentation to the Project Delivery team, and provide development support as required throughout the construction and handover phases
- Maintain strong internal and external working relationships, fostering a collaborative approach with all stakeholders to achieve optimised business outcomes
Skills and Qualifications
- Qualified to APM PMQ, PRINCE2 or equivalent project management qualification.
- Demonstrable understanding of a project management methodology
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Skilled in cross functional working and collaborating across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
- Must be able to manage multiple projects, at different stages, utilising strong planning and organisational skills
- IT literate in Microsoft office suite
Knowledge and Experience
- A background in industrial or utility infrastructure property development would be beneficial
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in front end development activities on multi-million-pound projects for the construction / utilities / process industry sectors
- Relevant experience and achievements in the renewable energy sector - demonstrated in Anaerobic Digestion/Biogas/Biomethane project/programme management preferable
- Sound understanding of renewable energy technologies, constraints, grid injection/export, planning and awareness of environmental permitting would be advantageous
- Good working knowledge of the renewable energy sector is advantageous.
- Full clean driving licence
