Fire Systems Project Manager - Aldermaston, £50,000 - 37h p /w Due to the nature of this contract only British Citizens can be considered for this position and will need to undergo & maintain security clearance. Fire Systems Project Manager will deliver individual or multiple building services related to minor new works within allocated budgets and defined programmes.

  • Accountable for the installation, completion and handover of Fire Detection and Alarm projects /small works at AWE Site within allocated budgets and agreed programme
  • Completion of the works in compliance with both AWE and LPCB/BRE LPS1014 standards

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Control of all matters relating to Health & Safety, Environment, Technical and Statutory requirements including CDM regulations and ensure compliance at all times
  • Management of financial, contractual, and operational business risks to minimise or remove risk
  • Control all aspects of project delivery from design, estimation through to final account
  • Control of Installation Teams both directly employed and subcontractor.
  • Liaise with on-site commercial/technical/operational management in order to comply with company and AWE procedures
  • Preparation of programmes, method statements, risk assessments and company IMS and AWE local procedures as well as LPCB/BRE LPS1014 documentation
  • Procure labour/materials and sub-contracts in accordance with buying procedures ensuring waste and costs are minimised
  • Provide accurate and timely contract information used to progress works both in terms of programme and additional cost
  • Manage work through to effective completion and submit for timely invoicing
  • Attendance at client contract meetings as and when required
  • Preparation and presentation of Client Contract Reports
  • Maintain accurate project administration files and costs (financial records).
  • Prepare information for project files to include all LPCB/BRE LPS1014 and AWE specific documentation from design certification through to Handover
  • Preparation of a monthly report for the General Manager detailing project activities
  • Attendance at and participation in the Monthly Contract Meeting
  • To carry out staff appraisals
  • To carry out any other reasonable requests of senior management
  • 8 - 10 No Direct reports
  • Responsible for the delivery of circa 2M of works as part of a wider programme at AWE.
  • Controlling of outsourced/sub-contractors as part of the scope of works

Person Specification

  • Proven and extensive experience within a similar role
  • Operational and technical experience with demonstrated potential
  • Technical expertise, qualifications or apprenticeship in a craft skill or engineering discipline would be an important pre-requisite of the role
  • Proven experience in Project Management
  • Ability to plan and organise their work effectively to meet changing environments and needs
  • Proven track record to the successful delivery of Fire detection and alarm projects
  • Ability to liaise with and supervise contractors
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and safe working practices
  • Demonstrable skills in dealing and working closely with internal and external customers and suppliers on complex and interrelated issues on an ongoing basis
  • Experience in Nuclear Licensed, Pharmaceutical environments would be an advantage
  • To be able to communicate at all levels, with excellent written and oral skills
  • To be self-motivated and to be able to motivate others, to be reliable and to be able to act with responsibility
  • IT skills required with specific reference to the Microsoft suite of packages
  • Hold sufficient Health and Safety (CDM) experience that allows the effective running of projects.
  • SMSTS Construction Management qualification
  • Prince II or equivalent qualification
  • Must obtain & maintain DV level security clearance
  • Full UK Driving Licence is required
