Carbon60 are currently recruiting for a Laser Application Engineer to join an unique business based in Abingdon.

This business are specialist in the field of bespoke special purpose machinery that incorporate laser technology, due to continued growth they are now looking to grow their team of applications engineers to assist with the development of new processes through detailed experimentation.

The main purpose of the role will be to design and develop experiments to ensure the technologies used will fulfil the customer requirements.

This role would be working both within a team and on own but will have the requirement to liaise with all engineering areas of the business to gain information, customer requirements but also reporting on results.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop new processes through experimentation and analysis of results
  • Design a set of experiments to find the appropriate laser process conditions to fulfil a customer's requirements.
  • Interact with customers to determine what they need. This may include reading technical drawings or scientific papers.
  • Accurately record experimental data for future replication or analysis
  • Write reports summarising activities, and drawing out conclusions and recommendations for next steps
  • For small to medium part quantities it may also be necessary to make batches of sample parts.
  • For larger quantities it will be necessary to design, document and implement procedures so that larger batches can be produced successfully by a machine operator. This may be done as part of a small dynamic team as appropriate to the task.
  • Will also be involved with aligning and commissioning laser machines that are being supplied to customers.

Experience Required:

The ideal candidate will ideally have previous experience with laser technology.

The business is open to applications of all level from graduate through to experienced but all candidates will need to have at least a BSc in Physics, Applied Physics, Laser/Optical Engineering or similar.

Desirable Experience:

  • Quality control experience.
  • Writing reports and presenting results using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Motion control hardware integration such as CNC stages or galvanometers
  • Ability to write simple computer programs.
  • CNC and CAD experience would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Materials Science
