
Workshop Team Leader / Electrical SupervisorJob PurposeTo produce accurate and prompt assembly of control panels. To team lead across the manufacturing operation and ensure that deadlines, quality and manufacturing standards are adhered to. The Company's philosophy is to deliver projects on time, to specification and within budget.Key ResponsibilitiesWireman duties:(This applies for approximately 50% of the daily working day).The position of a Wireman to a higher level should include all duties stated below.
- To conduct the wiring of panels to a high quality and speed.
- To hold sufficient understanding of schematic drawings to enable the wiring of control panels, being able to understand the sizing of cables, wire numbering and continuity of common supplies.
- To have an up to date understanding of the manufacturing procedures, specification and preferred practices.
- To build copperwork as specified by the engineer, understanding the supporting, tolerances and clearances required.
- To fit components as designed by the engineer.
- To do site installation and retrofits as and when required. Team leading as required.
- To ensure Jobs are built efficiently, advise team members on practices that ensure higher efficiencies liaise with management to better build practises.
- To ensure the jobs are built within the time constraints and advise management of the timescales that entail. Labour requirements may change according to specific job challenges.
- To be proficient in the use of hand and power tools associated with building and wiring control panels.
- To hold an understanding of the quality standards, health and safety requirements within the workplace and the personal responsibilities that it entails. Ensure that self and other personnel within the workplace adhere to the health and safety requirements.
- To take responsibility for the allotted jobs and ensure the smooth operation of the team(s) which are working on them.
- To ensure the jobs are built within the time constraints.
- To share responsibility for opening and closing of premises.
- To keep the engineer(s) aware of any change to drawing or layout no matter how small.
- To inform management of any concerns or problems.
- To inform management of timescale and potential lateness.
- To police quality and standards.
- To liaise with the engineer regarding any shortages or drawing errors keeping management informed.
- To ensure that the workshop is kept tidy and all rules are adhered to.
- To take ownership of a designated area within the workshop to ensure that it is kept tidy.
- To understand the procedures and requirements of our inhouse ERP software and occasionally have the ability to cover stores activities to include, booking in, job allocation, iconnect, surplus part awareness, consumable parts and other associated activities.
- To keep up to date manufacturing-defect list with every fault or change registered; and to ensure that the engineer signs off to ensure that he is aware.
- To maintain good relationships with customers, suppliers and company personnel.
- To conduct ad hoc projects and tasks.
Team Leading duties:(This applies for approximately 50% of the daily working day).
- To have an overall understanding of the day to day manufacturing plan and highlight any aspects that may have an impact on the plan.
- To supervise over and oversee working practices of personnel within the workshop. Report any problems to management.
- To mentor apprentices, contractors and other manufacturing personnel of procedures, quality and efficiency practices within the workshop.
- To ensure that the premises are secure and a keyholder is available to open / lock up as and when necessary.
- To ensure health and safety is adhered to and to report and problems immediately.
- To ensure jobs are built efficiently.
- To ensure the jobs are built within the time constraints.
- To oversee quality and standards to ensure these are maintained.
- To assist with the development and administration of manufacturing standards and practises
- To carry out daily checks to ensure all jobs are on target and the following points are being maintained by the workshop personnel.
- Liaise with the engineer(s) regarding any shortages or drawing errors, keeping management informed
- To keep the engineer(s) aware of any change to drawing or layout no matter how small.
- To inform management of any concerns or problems.
- To inform management of timescale and potential lateness.
- To keep the up to date manufacturing-defect list detailing every fault or change registered; and to ensure that the engineer signs off to ensure that he is aware.
- To list all issues on the issue list form for feedback throughout the job.
- To ensure that the workshop is kept tidy and all procedures are adhered to.
- To conduct job allocation of personnel as required to meet the production plan.
- To conduct forklift truck management.
- Ensure any scheduled maintenance activities are carried out.
- To supervise manufacturing handovers, ensure all documentation is acceptable and present. All issues to be discussed with the Production and Service Manager.
- To conduct panel layout supervision. To oversee panel layouts, and, if there are concerns highlight with the engineer, if all concerns are not satisfied then review with management.
- To conduct general and health and safety inductions for workshop contract staff.
- To ensure the grounds are kept tidy and supervise any gardening tasks being carried out.
- To conduct ad hoc projects and tasks.
Knowledge, Skills and experience / Personal Qualities
- To hold a relevant qualification and/or experience for 5 or more years.
- To be deadline orientated.
- To be trustworthy, punctual and reliable.
- To have excellent customer facing skills.
- To conduct additional hours as/where required.
- To be capable of effective liaison with customers and personnel at all levels, and to communicated with management, customers, contractors and others with regard to resolving problems, progressing projects and targets.
- To have a 'can do', 'will do' attitude to learning and work.
- To hold physical stamina as will be standing most of the working day.
- To hold H&S awareness for environment and in using workshop tools and equipment.
- To hold a full UK driving licence.
- To be able to do occasional site visits, but mainly be workshop based.
