We have an opportunity to join one of the world's foremost multinational support services and construction companies on an interim contract basis. They are currently recruiting for a Network Engineer, experienced in offering Cisco network support on a large Public sector facility in the Buxton area.

Job Purpose

To provide customer focused Cisco certified networks support, administering data networks at all layers, plus some basic management and administration of a Mitel Telecommunications system.

The role involves managing all aspects of the data network from physical port and connectivity, VLAN administration, layer-3 routing, performance maintenance and firewall administration. The telecommunications support involves the management and configuration of the hand-sets, connectivity, patching and initial diagnosis.

Disciplined and methodical approach to trouble-shooting and system change is an essential part of the role to ensure consistent, secure and reliable infrastructures are developed and maintained.

There is a strong team culture and as a 2nd / 3rd line engineer the role involves mentoring and assisting members of the IT Service Desk team to ensure cover and some element of resilience in skills and knowledge within the team.

The role reports to the on-site Service Delivery Manager/IT Manager and supporting the on-site account management team with projects, developments and proposals.

Experience operating effectively in a MS / Wintel environment is essential and any Wintel system administration (desktop and/or server) experience would also be advantageous but by no means essential.

Key Responsibilities

Resident network technical expert

Daily operational support and administration activities

Network technical lead on strategic IT projects

Key network and telecoms technical lead during "major" incidents

Shaping an IT service delivery strategy from a technical perspective

Supporting the IT Service Delivery Manager in achieving the account goals and meeting the contractual obligations

Essential Technical Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Minimum CCNA Certification

Extensive Cisco network installation, configuration and maintenance experience

Provide technical network installations and testing according to design documentation and project planning

Diagnose faults with customer networks and rectifying within the agreed SLAs

Monitor and maintain the internal IT networks, systems and perimeters

Access list / firewall administration

Desirable Technical Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Any of the following would be advantageous but are not essential -

Cisco Professional (CCNP) Certification

Mitel Telecommunication experience or certification

Monitoring and maintenance of internal Mitel Telecommunication Systems

Experience configuring and managing network elements of SAN solutions

Administration of Veritas/Symantec Netbackup solutions

Experience of McAfee EPO

ITIL Foundation Level (v2 or 3)

VOIP (for future project)

VMWare / Experience with VMWare Vsphere 4/5

Experience operating in a change control and configuration management environment

Experience of Windows server administration and troubleshooting

Experience of Lotus Notes client, Domino server administration and troubleshooting

Support & installation Windows Desktop OS

Essential Soft-skills

Experienced as the technical point of escalation for incidents

Experience of maintaining services in-line with SLA's

Providing technical advice in a consulting capacity to both the customer and colleagues

Investigating and documenting technologies and solutions that may benefit the IT and Telecommunications estate and the customer's business

Creating, improving and following documented processes and procedures, including local & corporate, and operating in line with BSI and ITIL frameworks

Strong technical document authoring and reviewing

Writing technical proposals and reports
