
Hardware Engineer

My client is an international market leader in the defence sector.
As a key member of the Hardware Engineering team, you will work to provide hardware engineering from a control systems and electrical engineering perspective. This role will include electrical design engineering, component selection, control/electrical system modification and development, including qualification support and hardware implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Electrical design engineering for existing and new control systems for Naval applications
- Create, modify, maintain and manage electrical designs for power systems
- Component selection and system implementation
- Analyse and justify electrical based designs and component selection
- Resolve electrical issues throughout hardware design, development, manufacture, integration and qualification
- Create, modify maintain and manage technical documentation to support contractual deliverables
- Apply working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) to support project demands, where applicable
- Produce, maintain and manage calculations to support electrical design engineering tasks (e.g. wild heat, cooling, power etc.)
- Produce, maintain and manage technical reports to support control systems engineering tasks (e.g. interconnectivity, system integration, component selection etc.)
- Design, develop and support electrical/control system based testing activities (Reference Sets, Test Sets etc.)
- Support and drive hardware embodiment onto existing and new Naval platforms, including on-shore facilities
- Assist with hardware obsolescence management, working closely with Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Engineering to specify, select and deliver suitable alternative hardware
- Provide bids/pricing support for new and existing projects
- Support Safety Engineering with electrically biased safety topic (e.g. Hazard analysis etc.)
- To be aware of and comply with company standards of conduct and all relevant statutory requirements
Person Specification
Essential qualifications / experience
- Experience in electrical design or control systems
- Engineering Degree in suitable, related discipline
- Understanding of electrical related Defence Standards (i.e. Lloyds Register and other Military Standards (e.g. Def Stan 59-411))
- Ability to work independently on own initiative, as well as within a collaborative team environment
- Ability to work under pressure in a complex and rapidly changing environment
- Hold SC clearance or ability to achieve it
Preferred qualifications / experience
- Experience of working within a team developing Naval Platform Management Systems (PMS) and other related electrical/control systems for surface and sub-surface programmes
- Understanding and working knowledge of Defence programmes
