Maritime Helpdesk Engineer

Requirement
As part of the activities of the Navy Digital the Maritime C4ISR Support Unit (MCSU) System Support Team is required to deliver system technical support for LC2, as used and deployed in RN/RM ships, submarines, and units.
The role is to respond to operational and non-operational CIS demands in support of operations, supply and fitting of systems, the rectification of urgent faults and defects and performance issues.
Outputs
Technical Specialists will require good knowledge of IT systems and equipment in use with the Royal Navy and in-depth system knowledge LC2.
The team will provide the following technical expertise:
- Specialist Technical advice for LC2 from within the MCSU Service desk.
- Specialist technical input and advice at meetings and working groups relating to the operation of LC2.
- Configuration, installation, and administration of LC2.
- Providing technical guidance, advice and oversight of system installation, commissioning and setting to work.
- Act as liaison between client, front line staff and third parties
- Undertake technical administration and support for LC2 including:
- Routine backups and administration of the system; maintain relevant files to log system downtimes and any faults encountered with the Service desk system.
- Oversee the setup of Servers, Routers and other relevant equipment required to operate LC2.
- Provide specialist LC2 support and guidance to the MCSU SYSS where required.
The team will act as and provide:
- The Service Desk 'out-of-hours' point of contact, dealing with any urgent front-line LC2 issues that arise, where required. This includes the 'on-call' team member providing out of hours call out support.
- Produce periodic reports and updates on progress and issues
Desirable Skills
Essential:
- Understanding of LC2 system
- Experience supporting C2 systems in a maritime environment
- Experience providing remote and on-site support to C2 systems (LC2 or a similar capability)
Experience in the below would be advantageous:
- Microsoft Server
- Active Directory
- Unix
- Solaris
- VMware
