Carbon60 are currently looking for a Mechanical Designer to work for a client of ours based in Broughton. This is a contract role running until November 2026. It is a 5 day onsite requirement.

As a Mechanical Designer, you will play a crucial role in developing and analysing robotic concept solutions, performing complex simulations, and designing mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic 2D and 3D models. You will contribute to the functional analysis and collaborative definition of requirement specifications, ensuring that safety concerns are properly addressed and that systems meet the company's high-quality standards.

The successful Mechanical Designer will have a Master's degree or PhD in Controls, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field, along with hands-on experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Application Engineer, or Robotics Engineer, preferably in the industry. Proficiency in CAD software, such as CATIA or 3DX, and experience with robot simulation software are essential.

Hourly rates will differ dependant on experience, we have both PAYE and Umbrella rates available.

  • Up to £35.13 per hour PAYE depending on experience
  • Up to £47.00 per hour Umbrella depending on experience


Key Responsibilities:

- Develop and analyze robotic concept solutions
- Perform complex simulations on loads, stress, fatigue, and manufacturability
- Design mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic 2D and 3D models
- Generate manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and other documentation
- Develop tests, perform failure analysis, and validate product development
- Contribute to the functional analysis and collaborative definition of requirement specifications
- Design systems under safety and quality standards for in-house CE Mark certification
- Validate and ensure the advanced maintenance of deployed systems
- Build a strong technical expertise to steer the development and integration of robotic technologies

Qualifications and Experience:

- Master's degree or PhD in Controls, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field
- Hands-on experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Application Engineer, or Robotics Engineer, preferably in the industry
- Demonstrated expertise in robotics and actuated systems control
- Solid knowledge of Dynamics and Kinematics
- Successful experience in the integration of industrial robotic solutions used in production
- Proficiency in CAD software, such as CATIA or 3DX
- Familiarity with robot simulation software (e.g., KUKA.Sim, RoboGuide, Visual Components, DELMIA, RoboStudio, Matlab/Simulink, RoboDK)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team
