Reality Capture Technician

The Role

We are seeking a skilled Reality Capture Technician to undertake reality capture activities across a range of projects using the Leica family of laser scanners and associated digital survey tools. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate point cloud datasets, registering scan data, and supporting the integration of spatial information into BIM and asset management workflows. This role involves close collaboration with BIM teams, design teams, and project managers to ensure precise and consistent capture of existing site conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct site-based laser scanning using Leica reality capture equipment (e.g., RTC360, BLK series, P-Series), ensuring accurate and complete data collection.
  • Perform pre-survey planning, including risk assessments, scanning methodology, and coordination with project teams to understand survey requirements.
  • Process, register, and clean point cloud data using Leica Cyclone and other relevant software, ensuring accurate alignment and quality control.
  • Produce deliverables including point clouds, TruView packages, 3D meshes, and survey reports in accordance with project standards and client requirements.
  • Maintain, check, and calibrate Leica scanning equipment, ensuring compliance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Collaborate with BIM teams to integrate point cloud data into 3D models, supporting existing conditions modelling, validation, and clash detection workflows.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining company standards for reality capture, data naming, metadata, and file management.
  • Liaise with site teams, clients, and contractors to coordinate survey activities, ensuring safety, access arrangements, and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Manage and organise point cloud datasets on internal systems, ensuring correct version control, secure storage, and adherence to project information protocols.
  • Provide training and technical support to project staff on laser scanning workflows, Leica software, and safe scanning practices.
  • Ensure secure handling of sensitive documents, including setting user permissions and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Support audits, quality checks, and compliance reviews to maintain BIM Level 2/ISO 19650 accreditation.
  • Adhere to Health & Safety responsibilities and company policies.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Experience using Leica laser scanners and the Leica Cyclone ecosystem.
  • Strong understanding of point cloud registration and processing workflows.
  • Knowledge of BIM environments and integration of point clouds into modelling platforms (e.g., Revit, Navisworks).
  • Strong organisational skills for managing large datasets and structured information.
  • Ability to work safely and independently on live construction or operational sites.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of survey principles, georeferencing, and spatial data quality.
  • Full driving license required.
