Application Software Engineer

- UK-based | Hybrid working
- Defence & Advanced Technology

On behalf of our client, a leading UK-based organisation operating at the forefront of defence, security and complex systems engineering, we are seeking an Application Software Engineer to join a growing, highly technical software team.

This organisation designs and develops some of the most advanced command, control and mission systems in service today, working on projects that have genuine national and international impact.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will support the delivery of a demonstration system for a next‑generation Command and Control application, extending established concepts and introducing new logic and capabilities. This demonstrator plays a critical role in shaping future full‑scale operational systems.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys translating system-level requirements into high‑quality, working software, collaborating closely with domain experts, and delivering capability at pace.

Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and test software applications, including more complex logic where required
    • Work closely with internal software, systems and algorithm teams to:
      • Integrate algorithms into the application
      • Implement and test data processing and transformation logic
      • Verify that systems work correctly when combined
    • Design and integrate software interfaces with:
      • Other internal systems
      • External simulation tools
    • Build, enhance and maintain components within an existing software framework
    • Deploy and test software within a virtualised environment

Skills & Experience Required

  • Experience developing application‑level software using C++, C#, Java or a similar language. If you have experience in any one of these, we'd like to hear from you.
  • Familiarity with modern software engineering practices, including CI/CD pipelines

Why This Role Might Appeal

  • The opportunity to work on visible, tangible software products that directly influence project outcomes
  • Exposure to the full engineering lifecycle, where systems design, algorithms and software development intersect
  • The chance to contribute to cutting‑edge technology with meaningful real‑world application

This role may be subject to security clearance, and applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.
